An excellent way of catering for Technology and Science in the Curriculum

At Craftpower we have 20 years of experience and have worked with over a thousand different Primary & Secondary Schools, kindergartens & ELC around Melbourne and state Victoria.

 

 

 

What we provide:

- All the necessary woodwork tables, tools, wood and associated materials.

   

- A selection of 10 to 20 different projects to suit all age ranges and levels of experience.

 

- Set up time: 40-50 minutes, so we need to arrive at your school earlier.

Minimum bookings - 2 X 1.5 - 2.5 hour or 3 X 1 hour 15 min.classes per day essential due to transport, set up and pack up

What the school needs to provide:

- An empty room with close access for a van (on the ground floor only). The equipment for a school incursion is very heavy!

 

 

- All furniture needs to be cleared prior the sessions

 

- The sessions will need to be run in a suitable large indoor area, without carpet where possible

Most of the workshops conducted require your chldren to use saws in sawing wood. Please note, this is optional, the wood would be pre-cut, if you do not wish your children to use saws.

 

1. Just Woodwork

Children have a selection of 10 to 20 designs.

All projects will develop basic hands on skills through the use of tools such as junior coping saws, hammers, pliers, sandpaper, goggles, etc

2. Road Safety

Road safety learning is most effective when it involves practical activities that take place in on-road situations.

* Learning about road rules and safety can be fun as children build their own signs to create an authentic road system;
* Help your children to develop Road Safety Skills;
* Children will make their own road safety signs and vehicles to practice good skills on the road.

An introduction to Road Safety signs and demonstration of how to use industrial tools.

Children select a pre-cut template from a variety of 25-30 common road signs and using hammers, pliers, nails and glue, will construct their own traffic sign.

Using pre-cut templates, children select their choice of up to 15 different vehicles which they will construct.

Vintage Monsters

 

 

Fearfulness of monsters and of more realistic threats is an expected response to a world that is too big for children to control. When you help children identify their fears and offer them techniques for taming scary monsters you provide vital tools for helping children regulate their emotional and social selves. This program can give children opportunities to explore their monster fears with curiosity and creativity. Encourage outrageous explorations that can help children master the monsters.

Children can create a monster of their own, not like one in a book or on TV. Set out bits of scrap wood, foil, buttons, pebbles, and other craft items that children might use for monster eyes, hair and claws.

Build a Mini Billy Cart

 

Billy Carts are a great project for kids as they require only basic construction skills and materials.

They are a great way of getting kids interested in engineering without them knowing it.

Ride on Billy Carts

 

When Just Building A Mini Billy Cart Isn’t Enough…

Much of the fun with Billy Carts is had when they are being designed and built for a real purpose.

Creating something from scratch, learning and working together can be a great experience and introduction into automotive construction.

But sometimes it isn’t just about the building, and you want a fast Ride-on Billy Cart !

In this workshop students will create full-sized Ride-on Carts. ( Suitable for Gr. 3-6 )

(Please note - school will not keep The Ride-on Carts)

Children are divided in 4 teams. They receive step-by-step instructions to building 4 full size Billy Carts.

Before booking this program please note - to race against each other you must have adequate space, i.e. hall, gym, multipurpose room, backyard or a basketball court (weather dependant).

6. Get Going With Gears

We try to provide children with a firm knowledge of different types of mechanisms and understanding of how they can be used.

Construct working models that can move or be raced against each other. Build moving models, using a simple circuit, powered by 3 volt motor, friction gearbox or wind-up motor, a remote control and gears.

Making toy bikes is a fun and easy project that you can do in your classroom.

Young children can make take home Tricycles and give a ride to their favorite soft toys.

12. Discover Pyrography

A popular program from the school curriculum in many European schools.

If a student is able to sit at a table and co-ordinate one good eye with one good arm, the craft of burning designs on wood is an art he/she can master.

Pyrography or Poker Work is an ancient craft dating back several centuries.

Children will learn the special tricks and effects used to obtain natural textures and tone and they produce works of stunning realism and beauty.
